Waubonsee Community College’s Omi Acosta became the second National Champion in school history when he captured the 133-pound title at the 2010 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships on Feb. 27. In addition, two other Chiefs’ wrestlers, Tommy Perez (184-lbs.) and Nicholas Clarke (149-lbs.), also earned All-American status as Waubonsee placed 4th in the nation among non-scholarship Division III teams and 15th overall for the tournament. Coach John Robinson’s Chiefs had only five grapplers qualify for the National Tournament held at Des Moines’ Veterans Memorial Auditorium, but still managed to compile 38.5 team points.
