Elburn—The St. Charles Sportsmen’s Club will start its 2010 shooting instruction program, Intro to Shotgun Sports, free to the public.

Proper firearms handling and safety is a key part of the instruction and will be stressed. The program comprises a class session and supervised range shooting. Separate segments will deal with each of the shotgun sports—trapshooting, skeet and sporting clays.

The class sessions and teaching materials are offered free to adults and to youth with adult supervision; there will be a charge for practice-range targets.

Classes are scheduled for noon on the third Saturday of each month, March through October, on the club’s grounds at 44W471 Keslinger Road, a half-mile west on Route 47 on the southern edge of Elburn.

Specific class dates are March 20, April 17, May 15, June19, July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18 and Oct. 16.

Class size is limited, and pre-registration is required. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Students interested in the shooting portion of the class must possess an Illinois FOID card and provide their own shotgun. Students may bring their own target-grade ammunition or purchase it at the club.
