Church seeks re-zoning for cemetery expansion

ELBURN—St. Gall Catholic Church is in the process of buying the vacant lot immediately to the south of its existing cemetery on Main Street, just north of the Elburn & Countryside Community Center.

In conjunction with that purchase, the church is seeking re-zoning of the property and a special-use permit to use the property for future expansion of its cemetery.

The church is seeking to have the village change the vacant-lot’s zoning from single-family residential (R-1) to residential estate district (R-E).

St. Gall will not purchase the property unless the village approves the request, according to the church’s zoning-change petition.

The Elburn Planning Commission on Monday recommended that the village approve St. Gall’s request.
