Springfield—Survival of the fittest is one way to describe the Master Showmanship Contest held on Aug. 11 at the Illinois State Fair.

Throughout the course of the event, each exhibitor showed three different species: cattle, sheep and swine. Fifty-two participants come from different counties and had previously qualified at their home county’s fair.

The second-place title went to Buddy Haas of Elburn.
