Maple Park—As summer makes its way into fall, what better way to get there than running or walking?

One of the main highlights of Labor Day Weekend’s Maple Park Fun Fest is the Romp in the Park 5K run and 2-mile walk/run.

The event, now in its 12th year, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 4, and Claudia Tremaine, Maple Park village clerk, said there’s a lot to like.

“It’s very affordable and very organized. People are always wondering what to do on Labor Day, and that’s something to look at,” Tremaine said.

Check-in time for the race is from 7 to 7:50 a.m., with the 5K run starting at 8 a.m. and the walk starting at 8:05 a.m.

Entry fees are among the most affordable in the area, with entry for the run at $10; $13 on race day. Walk entry fee is $7; $10 on race day.

Seven age categories will be available for participants. The timing of the event will be overseen by area timer Bob Telfer, and there will be water stations along the way.

T-shirts will also be available for the first 100 registrants, and ribbons are available for all that participate.

The entry form is available for download at and checks are payable to Romp in the Park, P.O.Box 220, Maple Park, Ill. 60151.
