Lady Knights lose opener on late 3

AURORA—It would be a fantastic beginning to the 2010-11 campaign for Kaneland Lady Knights basketball if it weren’t for the pesky last shot.

In the opening contest of the season for the Lady Knights on Tuesday evening in Aurora at Illinois Math and Science Academy’s Hoop Happenings, Tesa Alderman hit a game-tying three-pointer, but Rock Island’s Whitney Hoover hit a trey with two ticks left.

The bang-bang exchange dropped Kaneland, 51-48.

The Lady Knights now gear up against either Aurora Christian or Yorkville in the second round, which will tip-off at Aurora Christian High School.

For Kaneland, post player Kelly Evers led the charge with 17 points and nine boards. Emily Heimerdinger had nine points and three steals. Andie Strang had five points and eight boards.

Kaneland was 19-for-50 from the field, with four three-pointers.

KHS led early, 14-5 after the first quarter, but the Lady Rocks took a 23-21 lead at the half. Kaneland rallied for a 37-36 lead before the fourth-quarter stage was set.

The next contest for KHS tips off at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19.
