Lester H. Kleckner

Lester H. Kleckner Sr., 89, of St. Charles, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

Lester was born Dec. 22, 1920, in LaSalle, Ill., the son of Harry and Edith (Edgecomb) Kleckner. He grew up on Dimmick Township and attended local schools.

Lester was united in marriage to Virginia Rose Hanson on Feb. 6, 1944. The family moved to St. Charles in 1946, where they worked Dr. Raymond G. Scott’s farm on Route 31. Two years later they moved to the Pheasant Run Farm on Hughes Road in Elburn, where they stayed until 1963, when his son Lester took over all farming operations.

Lester and Virginia then moved to Lily Lake, where Lester continued to live following her passing in 1986. Lester was blessed with love a second time when he was united in marriage to Bernice Scott on March 14, 1987, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in LaSalle. They made their home in Lily Lake before moving in 2004 to Carriage Oaks in St. Charles, where he continued to live following Bernice’s passing in 2008.

In addition to his farming, Lester worked at Masonite Corporation, now International Paper, from 1960 to 1982 as a supervisor of research.

Lester was a member of the Blackberry Masonic Lodge #359 for over 60 years. He was also a member of the Community Congregational Church of Elburn and the Kane County Farm Bureau.

In later years, he enjoyed playing cards with friends. That circle of friends grew every year and now includes a special group still living at Carriage Oaks. Lester had a generous heart, and it could be plainly seen when he freely gave the fruits of his gardening labor to family and friends. His remaining years would bring many memories filled with laughter and love to all who knew him.

He is survived by three children, Lester Jr. (Carol) Kleckner of Maple Park, Mickey Lee of Lily Lake and Dennis (Diane) Kleckner of St. Charles; five grandchildren, Kent (Tracy) Kleckner and their children, Derek, Cory, Kathryn, and Lauren; David (Teri) Kleckner and their daughter, Elizabeth; Matthew Lee; Brian Kleckner; Renee (Shaun) Schroeder and their daughter, MacKenzie; one brother, Earl Kleckner of Mendota, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and a family of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his spouses; and three brothers, Kenneth, Howard and Otto Kleckner.

Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Conley Funeral Home. A funeral to celebrate his life was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, at Community Congregational Church of Elburn. Rev. Dr. Walter Thyng officiated, with private family interment following cremation.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Lester’s name. Checks may be made to the “Lester Kleckner Memorial” and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, 60119. Tributes may also be forwarded to the same address or on the web at www.conleycare.com.
