Waubonsee hosts high school academic challenge competition

SUGAR GROVE—Waubonsee Community College hosted the annual Illinois Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge Competition on Feb. 1, at its Sugar Grove campus. More than 160 students from 12 area high schools competed in seven subject areas.

The top two teams in each division will move on to sectionals, with divisions based on enrollment. Division 300 had just two teams competing, with Hinckley-Big Rock beating Leland High School. Aurora Central Catholic High School won first-place honors in Division 700, with Rosary High School finishing second. Division 1500’s top team was Kaneland High School, followed by Sandwich High School. Batavia High School won the Unlimited Division, with Geneva High School coming in second place.
