WCC women’s hoops earns Skyway honors

Waubonsee Community College’s women’s basketball team had three players recognized recently by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC). Lisa McQuade and Sarah O’Leary were each selected to the All-ISCC First Team, while the Lady Chiefs’ Shar Tate was tabbed Honorable Mention All-ISCC.

McQuade, a 5’8” sophomore guard, led the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference in scoring, averaging 18.3 points-per-game. The Yorkville High School graduate also nailed 45 three-pointers, grabbed 4.6 rebounds, dished out 2.1 assists and recorded 25 steals in conference play.

O’Leary, a 5’8” freshman guard, tallied 14.8 points and pulled down 8.9 rebounds per contest in ISCC action. The left-hander also averaged 2.4 steals and 2.7 assists a game while making 73 percent of her foul shots.

Tate, a 6’0” sophomore center, booked 7.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game. The Aurora West High School graduate also blocked 29 shots over 14 league games.

Waubonsee finished the season 10-19 overall and placed sixth in the eight-team Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. The Lady Chiefs received the number seven-seed in the Region IV Division II District K Tournament and lost in the first round at second-seeded Illinois Valley Community College 63-53 on Feb. 26.
