Elvin J. ‘Al’ Holdridge

Elvin Jacob “Al” Holdridge, 86, of Maple Park, died Monday, May 2, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, DeKalb.

He was born June 26, 1924, in Waterman, Ill., the son of Wayne and Alice (Jacobson) Holdridge. Elvin was united in marriage to Helen Frizol on Oct. 2, 1946, in DeKalb.

Elvin attended school in DeKalb and worked various jobs prior to being drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. After returning home, he began a lifelong career as a truck driver at Elmer Larson, Inc., which spanned 40 years.

He is survived by daughter, Donna Holdridge of DeKalb; a sister, Wilma Stringham of Covina, Calif.; a brother, Jim Holdridge of DeKalb; and several nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends. Al will be remembered by all as a kind and giving person.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Helen; his parents; and two brothers, Laverne M. Holdridge and Clarence M. Holdridge, who died in infancy.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Elvin Jacob Holdridge Memorial Fund for DeKalb County Hospice or DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center, in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.
