Village adjusts approach to regulating outdoor liquor sales
ELBURN—The Village Board decided against pursing the adoption of an ordinance (Ordinance O) that regulates outdoor sales of alcohol in favor of adding a requirement to existing ordinances A, C, D, E1, E2 and E3. The stipulation is that licensees apply for a one-time endorsement from the liquor commissioner in order to offer outdoor liquor sales. They would still be required to contain the area within a fence that is at least four feet high. A permanent fence would be subject to review and approval before a building permit would be issued. The ordinance also would mandate that temporary, special event licenses be issued for no more than three days with the condition that the fence be taken down within 48 hours. License holders would not be required to pay an extra fee for outdoor sales. The board will vote on the changes at its July11 meeting.
