Sugar Grove TIF District hearing cancelled

SUGAR GROVE—The village of Sugar Grove announced Wednesday that the continued public hearing regarding the proposed Tax Increment Financing District has been cancelled.

“The Village Board has listened to the input from the community and directed staff to take a fresh look at the proposed TIF District,” Village President Sean Michels said in a statement Wednesday.

Village Board members individually expressed their desire to have more dialogue before proceeding further. This led to the removal of the continued public hearing from the agenda for the Village Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6. It also brought the current TIF District process to a conclusion.

“The board wants to start over and insure there is adequate time to guarantee full participation and attention. Starting over means that the current public hearing is no longer valid, and it will not continue,” Village Administrator Brent Eichelberger said. “If the board determines to proceed with a TIF District, in its current or more likely an altered form, there will be a new public hearing.”

A new Joint Review Board meeting would also be held.

In addition to there being no public hearing for the TIF District, discussion of a TIF District will not be on the Tuesday, Sept. 6, Village Board agenda.
