UNIVERSITY CENTER, MICH.—Waubonsee Community College’s women’s soccer team downed Delta (Mich.) College 2-1 on Saturday, Nov. 5, to win the NJCAA District D Championship, earning the program’s first-ever trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. All-American candidate Maxzine Rossler (So./Hinckley-Big Rock) scored both goals for the Lady Chiefs, her 33rd and 34th goals of the season, as they outshot the Pioneers 16-3 for the game.

Waubonsee (17-6) becomes the first Region IV women’s soccer team to ever reach the eight-team, double-elimination tournament. Coach Leslie Ferguson’s Lady Chiefs will begin play on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Viera Regional Park in Melbourne, Fla., versus a yet-to-be determined opponent. Delta, which beat 14th-ranked Schoolcraft (Mich.) College for the Region XII title, finishes the season 11-4-1 overall.

WCC has won 12 of its last 13 matches heading into the National Tournament.
