The following reports were obtained from local police departments. The individuals charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
• Albertico Fernandez, 26, of the 300 block of Woodruff Street in Aurora, was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while license suspended and not having a valid safety test. There were also two valid warrants for Fernandez out of DuPage County for failure to appear in court.
• Jeffery S. Jones, 49, of the 100 block of Maple Street in Hinckley, was arrested on Jan. 13 and charged with driving while license suspended and overweight on registration (vehicle and load were 960 pounds over the allowable weight of 8,000 pounds).
• Michael H. Weis, 39, formerly of Sugar Grove and Sandwich, was taken into custody on Jan. 11 at approximately 1 p.m. by Yorkville police. On Jan. 10, a Kane County Judge signed a warrant for his arrest; he has been charged with one count each of Insurance Fraud and Theft, both Class 2 felonies. He was also charged with one count of Filing a False Police Report, a Class 4 felony.
On Oct. 19, 2009, Weis reported to Sugar Grove Police that his estranged wife had stolen property from him that was valued at more than $10,000. Weis subsequently filed an insurance claim for which he received a settlement.
In November of 2011 it was found that at the time of the report, Weis was not in possession of the property and had never had it. The property had been in the possession of a relative who was unaware that Weis had filed the insurance claim.
The judge set bail at $100,000. Weis will be transferred to the Kane County Jail.
