There are many ways to help the community

I feel that almost everyone has the ability to help others or their community. There are so many ways in which people can help that don’t involve much time or money.

One way you can volunteer is picking up trash by highways in your community. My mom and I have helped at her work with Adopt a Highway, and to be completely honest, I really enjoyed it. I got to spend time with friends, many people thanked us, and I felt really good about what I had done for my community.

Another way you can help is by donating food to food pantries. It can be as easy as going through the packaged food in your house and dropping it off at a local food pantry. Another really easy way to help is to get involved with a local organization or group. My mom and I help out at our church. At several holidays, our church has collections that benefit needy families. Trees in the church are decorated with ornaments (at Easter and Christmas) which list items for children or people in need. It’s as easy as purchasing those few items and dropping them off at the church.

On St. Patrick’s Day, we, along with many other people, volunteer to help make different parts of the dinner. Many tasks involve only an hour or so, such as helping set up, making the food or cleaning up afterwards. The food that is left over after the feast is also donated to the Hesed House.

A lot of people decide not to help because they think that it is too hard or is a waste of time. As you can see, it really isn’t that hard to help out in one way or another. If everyone realized how easy it is to help or how giving just a little bit can really help, I think our society would be in a lot better shape.
