Elburn Chamber to offer scholarships

By on February 27, 2012

ELBURN—The Elburn Chamber of Commerce has awarded one and often two scholarships each year to deserving graduating students in the Kaneland School District. The chamber has a committee to evaluate the applications and announce the winner(s) based on Academic Excellence, Extracurricular Activities, and Community Service. Each scholarship is $1,000. Application are available at the chamber’s office at 525 North Main St., Elburn, or at the Kaneland district offices. All Kaneland seniors are encouraged to apply.

Funding for these scholarships is achieved by conducting an annual dinner and fundraiser to be held this year on March 10 at the Hughes Creek Golf Club. While the dinner is an opportunity for chamber members to get together for fun and camaraderie, it is also where the chamber business of the year and member of the year are announced. This year’s event promises to be another success. Make-believe horse racing and make-believe betting is a challenge for all attendees.

The cost for the dinner is $40 each. Membership in the chamber is not required to attend, and those considering membership have the opportunity to meet chamber members and their spouses. All persons are invited but reservations are required.

Persons unable to attend this event can make contributions to the scholarship fund in any amount, from as little as $5 to a complete scholarship of $1,000 or more. A $1,000 award will certainly go a long way toward those first semester fees and books at any college.

Checks should be made payable to the Elburn Chamber of Commerce Scholarship fund.
