‘Simply Swedish … Simply Good’
BATAVIA—”Simply Swedish … Simply Good” is the theme of the 13th annual benefit Swedish Pancake Breakfast, which will be presented by the Swedish American Children’s Choir on Saturday, May 12, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Bethany Lutheran Church, 8 S. Lincoln St. in Batavia. The breakfast will feature Swedish pancakes, sausage, Swedish cardamom coffee cake, lingonberries, juice, milk and coffee.

Also available will be a bake sale, Scandinavian gift items for sale, and a brief performance by the Swedish American Children’s Choir. All proceeds from the event will be used to defray expenses for the choir’s upcoming performance tour.

The not-for-profit choir is the largest of its kind in the Midwest and comprised of children ages 4 to 18 from the Fox Valley and surrounding suburbs. They present performances of Swedish songs and Scandinavian dances throughout the area.

Breakfast tickets are by reservation only, and carry-out orders are available. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 10 years old. There is no charge for children ages 4 and under.

hosts Mother-Daughter
Banquet May 6

KANEVILLE—All women in the community are invited to KUMC’s annual Mother-Daughter Banquet on Sunday, May 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The program, “Memories,” will feature musing from across several generations of mothers and daughters. Awards, prizes and special music will complete the evening’s program. Bring a dish to pass and your own table service.

Elburn Hill Church offers
Mother’s Day plant sale

Elburn—Elburn Hill Church will hold its annual Mother’s Day plant sale Friday and Saturday, May 11 and 12. Various lilies, hostas and many other plants and flowers will be available.

Additionally, the church will host guest speaker Ngarday Bako during the Mother’s Day worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 13. Bako is the leader of the Evangelical Church in the African country of Chad. He was the overseer of an orphan school for 400 children built in part with support from the Elburn community.

Annual plant sale,
Fay’s BBQ
at Calvary Episcopal

BATAVIA—Calvary Episcopal Church in Batavia will hold two annual fundraisers on Saturday, May 5. Both events will be held rain or shine.

Calvary’s Lay Weeders will host the annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering both perennials and annuals. Proceeds will benefit a variety of programs of the parish.

Later in the day, Fay’s BBQ will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m., offering full chicken, pork chop and combo dinners for $12 a dinner. All proceeds from the barbecue will go to local charities.

Drive-up orders are welcome, but advance ticket purchase is suggested to avoid disappointment, as the event sold out in past years.
