KANELAND—Sometimes good totals aren’t enough.
The scorecard can go your way with consistent totals, but the opponent can experience the same phenomenon, but sometimes a stroke better.
That was the case on Sept. 19, when the Knight golfers were given a 162-163 loss to Algonquin’s Jacobs High School at Randall Oaks Golf Club.
The Knights are looking at a 5-4 record in dual action.
Kaneland also took a trip to the Oak Club in Genoa, Ill., for the Fran Noyes Invite on Saturday and finished third.
Brody Kuhar shot a 39 for Kaneland against Jacobs, followed by Connor Williams with a 40, and both Luke Kreiter and Matt Yonkovich with 42.
Sam Kozak of Jacobs earned medalist honors with a 37.
Using Stableford scoring on Saturday, the Knights’ team total of 103 was better than 20 other teams near Route 23.
Huntley was first with 114, and Rockford Boylan was second with 106.
Yonkovich was best among the individuals in the field with a score of 33, while Kreiter was third with 28.
Kaneland was set to travel to Senica Oaks Ridge Golf Club to the Northern Illinois Big XII meet hosted by LaSalle-Peru on Wednesday, with results unavailable as of press time.
KHS has its regional assignment on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Sycamore Golf Club, for the 10-team regional. The sectional takes place the following Monday, hosted by Belvidere North.
