Soccer (3-2) finding good fortune at West Aurora stop
Braving chilly temperatures and unforgiving defenses, Kaneland is doing well for itself in the opening chapters of the 2009 season.
Lady Knights soccer (3-2) opened the annual West Aurora Tournament with a bang as it handed Plano a 5-0 loss on Thursday, April 9.
The Lady Knights improved to 2-1 thanks to a prolific shoot attack. Emily Heimerdinger scored four goals while Bridget Crosby added one. Paige Rogers contributed with an assist.
KHS led 1-0 after the first 40 minutes of play.
KHS then suffered a tough 4-3 loss on Saturday to the host Blackhawks in a game that featured West Aurora coming back from a 3-0 deficit at halftime.
Crosby, Heimerdinger and Colleen Gebauer scored the goals, with Sarah Goodrich supplying an assist.
Continuing the Blackhawks escapade on Tuesday, Kaneland served up a 2-1 defeat to the Streamwood Sabres.
Crosby and Gebauer each scored for KHS while Heimerdinger had an assist.
The Lady Knights looked to end the tournament on a winning note vs. Western Sun Conference-mate Rochelle on Wednesday. A win would put the Lady Knights at 3-1 at West Aurora, their best finish.
Meanwhile, the JV team improved to 3-0 with a 5-0 shutout of Lake Park on Tuesday.
The Lady Knights travel to Burlington Central on Saturday, April 18, and host DeKalb on Tuesday, April 21.
