to hold Children’s
SUGAR GROVE—Sugar Grove United Methodist Church (UMC) on Sunday, Oct. 14, will celebrate Children’s Sabbath as part of the Children’s Defense Fund’s annual observance. The multi-faith weekend seeks to inspire congregations and religious organizations to work on behalf of children through prayer, service, and advocacy throughout the year.
The Children’s Sabbath theme this year, “Pursuing Justice for Children and the Poor with Urgency and Persistence,” urges everyone—young and old—to reach out and speak out to help protect children from budget cuts. When 16.4 million children in America are poor, and children under age 5 are the poorest age group in the country, this country has a crisis.
Both the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services will celebrate children and also focus on one urgent problem for the children in the area. For more information about Sugar Grove UMC’s celebration of the Children’s Sabbath, contact Rev. Vickie Hadaway at (630) 466-4501 or email@example.com.
UMC is located at 176 Main St. in Sugar Grove.

ELBURN—Donna Doherty recently joined the staff of St. Gall as the director of youth ministry. Donna and her husband, Mike, have been married 26 years and have three children ages 14 to 22 years old. Her family is a gift and her primary vocation.
Donna is a youth ministry assistant at St. Patrick Church and conference coordinator at Here I Am Lord National Vocations. She is the current program coordinator for the Embracing Your Family With Jesus (EYFWJ) program. Donna has been a catechist for 13 years, and is currently fourth-grade EYFWJ coordinator for weekly religious education. She also teaches a confirmation grade class.
Donna completed the Ministry Formation program in the Rockford Diocese in 2011. Three years earlier, she received the Bishop O’Neill Award in catechetics for outstanding service to the word of God through religious education programs. Besides being a wife and mother, she is a retreat leader, speaker, cantor, artist, singer, author and musician.
