Kaneland—Dealing with numerous cancellations locally, the Kaneland softball squad managed to get to another state to play its initial slate of games over spring break.

After venturing to Tennessee in 2012, the Lady Knights venture in 2013 took them to the 3rd Annual Oldham County Spring Break Classic in Buckner, Ky., near Louisville.

KHS ended the Friday and Saturday jaunts going 3-1.

The hosts, Oldham County, currently the eighth-ranked team in Kentucky, beat Jackson High School of Ohio to capture the tournament mantle and go 5-0.

The Lady Knights beat Collins High School, 11-0 to begin the tournament, followed by an 8-1 win in four innings over Conner High School.

The only team from Ill., to make the trip down, Kaneland went into bracket play beating Revere High School of Ohio before succumbing to eventual runner-up, Jackson.

Kaneland begins conference play on Thursday, April 4, in Ogle County against the host Lady Hubs of Rochelle at 4:30 p.m.
