Catherine ‘Kay’ Peterson

Catherine “Kay” Peterson, 80, of Batavia, passed away July 1, 2013, at her home following a bout with cancer. She was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Geneva, the daughter of Peter and Mildred (nee Wallenberg) Arbizzani. Kay was united in marriage to Donald “Pike” Peterson March 19, 1954, in Elburn.

Kay and her husband, Pike, were co-owners of the Yurs-Peterson Funeral Home in Batavia. Kay served as a dedicated funeral director from 1966 until her retirement in 1991. She was also a dedicated mother who served as Cub Scout Den mother and Girl Scout cookie chairman.

Catherine was active and athletic. She enjoyed softball, bowling, tennis, golf and gardening. Following her retirement, she enjoyed traveling via her motor home, spending time in South Padre Island, Texas, and Gulf Shores, Ala. She will be remembered and missed by her family and many families she and her late husband had touch with in the community because of their compassion in funeral service.

She is survived by her two sons, Dave (Brenda) Peterson, of Rock Island, Ill., and Dan Peterson of Batavia; and a daughter, Cathy Fink of Batavia; six grandchildren, Brian, Jamie, Rachel and Joel Peterson, and Brandon and Jacob Fink; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Pike” Peterson; a sister, Audrey Armbruster; a son-in-law, Bryan Fink; and a nephew, Brett Armbruster.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5, at Moss Family Funeral Home 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, at Moss Family Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in Blackberry Cemetery in Elburn. Rev. Steven Srock will officiate.
