Gary Robert Williams, 59, of Sandwich, Ill., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, in the afternoon hours of Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

Gary was a hard-working man who loved his family dearly and turned everyone he met into a friend.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1953, in Waco, Texas, the son of Marie and Robert Floyd Williams Sr. He was one of four siblings, and after several moves, Gary’s family eventually settled in Aurora.

Gary married Julie Anne Vogel on Nov. 24. The couple’s oldest child, Anne, was born in 1974. They had a son, Tom, in 1977, and the growth of their family concluded with the birth of their twins, Bonnie and Marsha, in 1979. The couple spent 23 years raising their family until Julie Anne passed away on Jan. 18, 1996.

Gary was fortunate enough to find love again when he met Maria Hotopp in October of 2005, and two years later, they wed. They spent the following years blending their families together.

He started working in construction with his dad at the age of 18 and continued in the industry for the rest of his career. He served as a building inspector for many years, until he was forced to retire due to his failing health.

In addition to spending time with his family, Gary loved sports. He was a Chicago Bears fan and loved to play golf. He loved to take his family on trips to his camper, where they would spend many hours fishing and laughing, trading stories and building relationships.

He was a member of the Yorkville Chapter Moose Lodge No. 2017.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Maria; four children, Anne, Tom, Marsha and Bonnie; three step-children, Kenny, Phoenix and Michael; mother, Marie; three siblings, Patti, Robert Jr. and Don; 11 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julie Anne; father, Robert Sr.; grandson, Emory; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Family and friends attended a celebration of his life on July 6 at their home at 209 Boulevard St., Sandwich, Ill. Tributes, memories and well wishes may be sent to their home.
