Cougars become first Class A club in history to reach mark
GENEVA—The Kane County Cougars, Class-A farm team of the Chicago Cubs, welcomed their 10 millionth fan, Rich Davis of St. Charles, through the Fifth Third Bank Ballpark gates on July 20. Rich attended the historic game along with his wife Tammy and sons Michael and Matthew.

Greeted at the Fifth Third Bank Ballpark gates by Cougars General Manager Curtis Haug and Ozzie T. Cougar, Rich and his family were recognized with a team autographed bat, Cougars No. 10 jersey, 10 $100 bills, a Labor Day outing in Suite No. 10, and 10 Midwest League game baseballs. They will also receive a 10-game customizable ticket package for the 2014 season, and 10 Cubs tickets.

According to Minor League Baseball, the Cougars are the first Class-A team in Minor League Baseball history to reach 10 million fans. The Cougars are also the sixth-quickest Minor League Baseball franchise to reach the historic mark.

“What a tremendous evening for the Kane County Cougars organization,” Cougars General Manager Curtis Haug said. ”This evening’s milestone will be remembered for years to come, and we can’t begin to express our gratitude to each and every fan who has attended a Cougars game since our first season in 1991. I’d like to particularly thank our entire staff, who on a daily basis, strive to provide the best customer service and fan entertainment experience possible. Achieving this milestone would not be possible without the support of our sponsors and media as well.”

Now in their 23rd season, the Cougars have successfully placed affordable and family-friendly minor league baseball on the map in the Chicagoland area as the only Major League-affiliated team in the Chicago market. A franchise record crowd of 14,872 attended a game at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on July 3, 2009. A total of 121 former Cougars have reached the major leagues and the list includes All-Stars, MVP’s, and a Triple Crown winner.

The fun continues through Labor Day weekend as the Cougars’ regular season closes on Monday, Sept. 2. Numerous fireworks nights, pre-game autograph sessions, theme nights and more are on tap between now and the end of the 2013 regular season.
