Harry Clifford Neely, 87 of Elburn, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at The Tillers. He was born June 26, 1926, and served the United States Navy during World War II, active in the Pacific.

The son of Batavia residents Clifford and Florence Neely (nee Mull), Harry united in marriage to Donna Hendrickson June 21, 1953, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Batavia.

Harry was a member of the Batavia Masonic Lodge 404, American Legion, Elburn Lions Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Batavia Shriners and Shriners International.

Harry loved to work drilling water wells in the Northern Illinois area.

Side by side in their 60 years of business and marriage Harry would hold Donna’s hand during walks, and bring her flowers and candy. The couple enjoyed their home in Elburn but traveled the U.S. in their motorhome, spending winters in Florida, deep sea fishing and hunting. Harry fondly spoke of long frequent trips to Europe, Hawaii and Africa watching wildlife being thrilled by leopard along with the lions on the prowl, and Australia and China, riding elephants in Thailand. As an avid war history buff, Harry lived his long-time dream sailing the Volga River and visiting the Hermitage in Russia.

He is survived by his wife Donna, who lovingly stayed by his bedside after he suffered a series of massive strokes in 2011; and dearest family friend, Jean Tamura; five children; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his only brother, Richard.

At Harry’s request, the final service will be private.

In Harry’s memory, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association (www.heart.org/dallas), 8200 Brookriver Drive, Suite N-100, Dallas, Texas, 75247, and The American Kidney Foundation, www.kidney.org.
