Mary M. (Gette) Perkins-Richtman, 85, of Elburn, passed away on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Delnor-Community Hospital. She was born on the family farm on Dec. 4, 1927, in Aurora, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Gette, and one of 10 children.

Mary was a graduate of Annunciation School, Madonna High School and attended Waubonsee Community College. She married John F. Perkins on Nov. 15, 1947, and together they had eight children. In 1977, after 29 years of marriage, her first husband, John Perkins passed away. In 1978, she met Jack Richtman, and they were married on Dec. 26, 1979.

In 1990, Mary and Jack moved to Elburn, where they attended St. Gall Catholic Church. She was active as president of the Altar and Rosary Society, serving at funeral luncheons, and was a Eucharistic minister at the church. Mary worked at Brown’s Flowers for 20 years, retiring in 1993. She was a volunteer at Delnor-Community Hospital until 2009. She very much enjoyed spending time with her 52 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mary also loved to work in the garden.

Mary was a loving mother to Mary Ann (Mike) Katz, of Sugar Grove, Tom (Karey) Perkins of Boulder City, Nev., Kathy (Tom) Wiacek of Elkhart, Ind., John (Ann) Perkins, of Aurora, Jeff (Tina) Perkins, of Pahrump, Nev., Susie (Jeff) Sartain, of Oswego, Ill., and Terri Morlock, of Aurora. Mary was a loving step-mother to Bill (Kate) Richtman, of St. Paul, Minn., Paul (Karen) Richtman, of Stillwater, Minn., Jane (Steve) Martin, of Woodbury, Minn., Mark (Vicki) Richtman, of Novato, Calif., Claire (Jim Young) Richtman, of Portland, Ore., John Richtman of Trevor, Wis., Jim (Theresa) Richtman, of Guyton, Ga., Ruth (Mike) Podmore, of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Julie (Dan) Feuerborn of Harrogate, U.K., Tom (Karen) Richtman of Elburn and Leo (Laura) Richtman, of Downers Grove, Ill.

Also surviving are her siblings, Kaye Woodard, Rose Hettinger, Albert Gette, Barb (Noel) Rivera, Joe Gette; and a sister in law, Ann Gette.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, John F. Perkins, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Perkins; her sister, Margaret Kies; her brothers, Adam, Phil and Stephan Gette; and one step-daughter, Ann Richtman.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove. A liturgical wake service will be held at 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, at St. Katherine Drexel Church, 8S055 Dugan Road, Sugar Grove, concelebrated by Fr. Timothy Seigel and Fr. Bernard Schaefer. A prayer service will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday at The Healy Chapel prior to the Mass. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
