RAPID CITY, S.D.—Maple Park resident McKayla Helm during the week of July 21 got the chance to get out of the classroom and explore opportunities that can come from a degree in electrical engineering and computer science when she attended Robotics Camp at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D.

Helm and 11 other campers from around the country attended the Robotics Camp.

The five-day curriculum included building, designing, coding and programming robots to perform a variety of complex functions automatically and with a remote control. Teamwork is a key element of the camp; students were required to solve problems collaboratively and encouraged to help each other.
