Letter: School Board appoints Lopatin to replace Oberweis

By on September 13, 2013

The Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Lopatin to the Kaneland Schools’ Board of Education.

Mr. Lopatin was one of five eligible candidates who were interviewed by the Board of Education. President Cheryl Krauspe stated that, “The level of experience of all candidates was impressive. During over two hours of interviews, the Board of Education had an opportunity to explore applicants’ reasons for wanting to be a board member, strengths applicants would bring to the role, and the process each candidate would use to make decisions.”

In addition to the individual interviews, all candidates were asked to submit a resume, letter of interest, and written description of their community and non-profit experience.

Lopatin has been involved in a wide variety of community volunteer activities. He currently serves as a member of the Kaneland Citizens’ Advisory Committee and also sits on the board for the Kaneland Arts Initiative. Previously, he volunteered his time as a board member for a community health clinic, at a local library organization, and at a PADS homeless shelter. Much of his professional career has been spent working with non-profit organizations.

Peter is a step-parent of one Kaneland student. In his letter of application, he stated, “Over the years I have attended many School Board meetings, listened to the issues and have a solid understanding of the roles and responsibilities that are inherent in board membership. Professionally, I work in strategic planning, financial and market analysis and process improvement; I believe that all these skills will add value to the work of the board in fulfilling its responsibilities to the community.”

Mr. Lopatin was seated and sworn in on Sept. 9, 2013 and will fill the unexpired term of Mr. Joe Oberweis on the Board of Education until April 2015.
