Letter: HMS 6th-grade Band Camp concludes

By on September 13, 2013

Kaneland Harter Middle School Band Camp concluded on Aug. 16 for approximately 80 incoming sixth-grade band students. The instructional staff met with students who possessed varying levels of musical understanding—from those who opened their instrument case for the first time, to those who completed the first method book.

The two-week camp provided an opportunity for the new musicians to become familiar with the music wing, establish a rudimentary understanding of his/her instrument and required techniques, and meet new peers. The first eight days of camp were devoted to 45 minutes of sectional instruction, with two large ensemble rehearsals on the final two days, concluding with outdoor fun and games on the last day.

Ultimately, students and staff worked together with one goal in mind: to make music and have fun doing it. It took many “hands” to make the camp successful, from the families who accommodated their summer schedules to bring their children; those who assisted incoming students and parents; those who helped set up the band and music rooms; the guest and staff instructors; the technology and office staff; and the Kaneland Performing Arts Boosters.

The commitment and perseverance of the incoming students will most certainly result in another successful Kaneland Harter Middle School Band.
