New child care facility to open in Elburn

ELBURN—The Lighthouse Academy, a Delaware-based child care facility company, will open a child care center in Elburn this fall.

Lighthouse Academy Vice President Shannen Flores attended the Elburn Village Board meeting on Sept. 16 and asked for a special use permit to allow the center in the Elburn location. The center will be located in the building vacated by Little Knights Early Learning Center at 153 Wright St. in Elburn. Although Little Knights had obtained a special use permit to operate that facility, it had expired.

Flores already has an Illinois license, and she and her father own two other child care facilities, in Yorkville and Plainfield. Flores said she plans on opening the Elburn center in October, once the center is licensed.

The center can accommodate up to 78 children, and fully staffed, will employ 11 staff members. The ages served will be from 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Flores has already purchased the building and is in the process of remodeling and getting it ready for operation. The outside renovation will include a playground and rubber mulch.

Flores said she has had a great response from the public so far.
