Three late-season contests provide skill showcase
KANELAND—Knight soccer might be finding a little groove, and not a moment too soon.

With the postseason challenge coming next week in the form of rival Sycamore on Oct. 23, the Knights met three opponents in the form of visiting Rochelle, host Plainfield East and host Yorkville.

After the 4-0 win over the Hubs, and a 3-3 tie against Southwest Prairie Conference foe PE, coupled with the 1-0 victory against the Foxes, the Knights are now 8-5-4 and 5-2-2 in Northern Illinois Big XII action. Kaneland has also won seven of its last nine outings.

Last Thursday’s clash with the Hubs had Kaneland post two goals each in the first and second halves of play. Just 20 seconds into the game, Tyler Siebert scored on an assist from Igancio Toscano, and the Knights followed it up with a Toscano goal with 4:34 left off a Kyle Romas assist. In the second half, goals by Toscano with 9:05 left off a Siebert assist and a goal from Arsim Azemi off an assist from Adhurim Azemi sealed the match’s fate with 3:12 to go.

Against the Bengals, Siebert scored with 10:41 to go off an Ivan Bohorquez assist for the first half goal, but KHS found itself down 2-1 at the break. Playing a man down in the second half, the Knights found a goal at the cleat of Arsim Azemi off an Anthony Parillo assist with 36:46 go go and another successful Azemi-Parillo combo with 4:41 to go for a 3-2 lead before PE tied the game in the last minute.

Facing off against rival Yorkville on Tuesday under the Campbell Field lights, Siebert’s goal in just the fourth minute of the game proved to be the difference, as KHS locked down defensively to pitch a shutout. Parillo provided the assist.

The regular season finale takes place against visiting Sycamore on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 4:30 p.m.
