James “Jim” E. Murphy Jr., 75, of North Aurora, passed away at Presence Mercy Hospital in Aurora on Nov. 3, 2013.

Jim was born Feb. 24, 1938, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Margaret (Belcher) Murphy Sr. in Mc Comas, W.V.

He attended local schools before his family moved to Bluefield, W.V., where he attended high school. In 1956, Jim joined the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country until 1963.

In July 1963 Jim moved to Illinois to work for Anaconda Wire and Cable in Sycamore. During his time in Sycamore, Jim met the love of his life, Pearle V. Mc Millan. On April 3, 1965, the two made their lives one and were married. In 1973 the couple moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., for two years. Missing home, they returned to Sycamore, and Jim began driving a truck, which he did until his retirement in 2006.

Jim had many pastimes that he enjoyed. He enjoyed spending time fishing—as long as it took his bait, it became the catch of the day. Every Sunday during football season, he could be found rooting on his favorite team, the Chicago Bears. Throughout the summer, his beloved Chicago Cubs could be found on TV. When he wasn’t watching sports or enjoying some fishing time, you could find him working on his crossword puzzles or watching NASCAR.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pearle Murphy of North Aurora; one daughter, Melissa (Terry) Stover of Elburn; one son, James E. (Tanya) Murphy III of Layton Utah; five grandchildren, Pam and Kim Stover, and Connor, Shannon and Brandon Murphy; and his great-granddaughter, Nahla. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Margaret Murphy; and his sister, Trudi Klein.
