John A. Wold

John A. Wold, 80, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, free at last from Alzheimer’s disease, which he suffered from for many years.

John was an educator, businessman, Bears fan, coach, wonderful father and husband. His love of community led him to be involved in various functions, including a position on the Citizens Utility Board in Chicago, and a run for mayor in Yorkville.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Arlene; children Phillip (Martha) and Elizabeth; step-children, Don and Paula Davids, Marcia and Mike Thibault, Mike and Mary Davids and Marty and Cindy Davids; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Survivors also include his brother, Tom (Imogene); sister, Margaret Harrison; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a special aunt, Eunie Ross; and nephew, Joe Wold of Naples, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joe and Marie Wold; and brother, Joe Wold.

Having donated his body to science, John was cremated.

His memorial service will take place on Sunday, March 9, at the English Congregational United Church of Christ (ECUCC) in Big Rock. Visitation will take place at 3 p.m., with a service at 4:30 p.m. and a light supper afterward.
