19-7 Lady Knights cross plate often

Kaneland softball made certain that opponents like DeKalb, Oswego East and Yorkville remembered who they were up against.

The Lady Knights were firing on all cylinders this past week with a 7-0 trouncing of Oswego East on Monday and a 10-1 handling of visiting Yorkville.

KHS improved to 19-7 and 7-3 in the Western Sun Conference.

Mallory Huml earned the win in the non-conference affair. The Lady Knights put up three runs in the top of the third, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Jessica Lubic went nuts at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homer and a double. Jordan Herra had a triple.

Against the Lady Foxes, Kaneland put up a four-spot in the fourth and a six-run outburst in the sixth inning.

Delani Vest earned the win with a four-hit effort. The hurler fanned six batters. Andrea Potts went 2-for-4 with a homer.

At the home of the Lady Barbs, the Lady Knights went back to Maple Park with an 8-3 victory, thanks to Potts’ grand slam. The blast was the second bases-loaded round-tripper of the season.

In lower-class action, the freshmen took care of Oswego East 12-0, thanks to an outstanding effort from Sarah McGinnis. McGinnis went 3-for-3 at the plate, and struck out six on the mound.

The sophomore’s lost to Yorkville by a 7-2 final, while the freshmen used a four-run seventh to win 4-1. Alexis Villarreal earned the win.

The softball roster heads to Sycamore on Thursday, May 14, and Glenbard South on Friday, May 15.
