Knight boys see sectional berth pay off
KANELAND—It wasn’t the end of the good times for Kaneland boys basketball last week, even with the season-ending loss to Rockford Lutheran.
On Thursday, the Northern Illinois Big XII All-Conference list was released, featuring three unanimous first-team selections from the Knight roster.
Seniors Tyler Carlson, Drew David and John Pruett were all named to the first team in the East division. Carlson was also named as co-Player of the Year.
“Tyler Carlson had a very good season. He had the best season in my tenure at Kaneland since David Dudzinski,” KHS coach Brian Johnson said.
Other East first team selections included Morris junior Austin Patterson, Sycamore seniors Devin Mottet (co-Player of the Year) and Ben Niemann, DeKalb junior Rudy Lopez and Yorkville junior Kyle Shimp.
Knight senior Cole Carlson’s senior campaign resulted in an honorable mention for the All-Conference list.
Note: Carlson will also be competing in this weekend’s Three-Point Showdown at Carver Arena in Peoria, Ill., as part of the IHSA 3A and 4A State finals. Preliminary round shooting begins on Thursday, March 20, at 5 p.m.
Carlson, who put up 70 points combined in regional final and sectional semifinal action, emerged with Belvidere’s Maurice Jackson, Burlington Central’s Drew Wiss and Marian Central Catholic’s Kyler Hardie out of the Hampshire Sectional as qualifiers.
One of 32 3A competitors, Carlson is joined by fellow NIB-12 competitors Patterson of Morris and Zach Rehmert of Sterling, Ill.
