Meta E. Mannion

Meta E. Mannion, 75, of Yorkville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Rush University Medical Center. She was born May 27, 1938, in Lithuania, the daughter of the late Vilius and Helena Fetting.

From ages 3 to 11, Meta lived in 33 displaced persons camps throughout World War II Europe. She arrived with her family at Ellis Island in 1949, was sponsored by a Menno, S.D., church, moved to Milwaukee and graduated from South Division High School in 1956. She married James A. Mannion, settled in Aurora and Yorkville, raised three children and served a 30-year career between Mercy Center Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association. Meta was an avid gardener, loved to travel and rummaged for books, but spent her best time with grandchildren.

She is survived by loving husband, James A. Mannion; children, James M. (Sheri) Mannion, Susan (Jeff) Dellutri and Laura Steging; grandchildren, Zachary, Michael, Natalie and Henry; beloved sister, Christa (Richard) Giese; nieces, Suzanne (Dan) Bully and Lisa Schultz; grand-niece, Samantha; grand-nephew, Jacob; and other extended family and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim Steging; and brother, Manfred Fetting.
