Rodger E. Harris, 70 of Kaneville, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness with cancer. He was born July 18, 1944, in La Porte, Ind., the son of the late George and Sarah Pauline (Brown) Harris.

Rodger was very proud to serve his country with the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, from 1961 to 1965. He was a member of the American Legion Yorkville Post 489. Rodger was employed for over 46 years with the Iron Workers Union Local 393 in Aurora. He worked for Central Machinery of Big Rock until his retirement in 2009.

Rodger is survived by his devoted wife, Denise (Enders) Harris of Kaneville; his daughters, Hailee Harris of Kaneville, Wendy (Mark) Bank of Bristol and Tammy (Frank) Goetzinger of Yorkville; along with his five grandchildren, Paige Bank, A.J. Bank, Payton Bank, Abby McCartney and Nicholas Goetzinger; his brothers, Garry Harris, Larry (Beverly) Harris and Jim (Chris) Payne; his sisters, Georgia (Rich) Sears and Patti (Doug) Douglas; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Rodger was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family, and will truly be missed for his witty jokes and his colorful stories. He was an avid fisherman who loved the great outdoors, spending many trips with his family to Canada and the Northwoods.

Funeral services were held Saturday at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Drive, Sugar Grove. Visitation was held until the time of service. Interment will be held privately at a later date at Kaneville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the educational fund that is being established for his daughter, Hailee Harris.
