The 2009 Corn Boil will host a band on Sunday, unlike in previous years. That is one of a few new features at the festival this summer, which include an appearance by Miss Northern Illinois and a better-than-ever kids’ activities station.

From 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26, the Duke Band will play music from the 1960s to the present.

“We’re going to bring live music on Sunday to draw a bigger crowd that day,” event organizer Diane Baker said.

In the Kids Zone, additions to last year’s trivia game and coloring contests will be competitions in the categories of Test Your Knowledge, Count the Number of Twizzlers in the Jar, and Show Your Hoola-Hoop Skills.

Those contests will take place from 11 am. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“We wanted to have more children’s games and contests,” Baker said.

From noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, for the first time, Miss Northern Illinois Season Winesbsurg will talk to visitors and sign autographs, along with Northern Illinois Princess Kaetlyn Schultz.
