Kaneland @ Sycamore football preview

By on September 18, 2009

Kaneland (2-1, 1-0) at Sycamore (3-0, 1-0) 7:30 p.m.

Kaneland couldn’t be facing Sycamore at a worse time.

Of course, Sycamore might be saying the same thing about Kaneland.

Kaneland comes off a 33-12 win at Rochelle, which showed just how dangerous
the spread offense works with five targets plus a mobile QB.

Meanwhile, Sycamore has shown early on it’s brandishing one of the premiere
offenses and defenses in the Western Sun Conference. The Spartans are coming
off a 33-6 win over DeKalb on Friday in the annual Castle Bank Challenge out
at Northern Illinois University.

On the sideline opposite Knights coach Tom Fedderly is Sycamore head man Joe
Ryan, back for a fifth year. After coaching a formidable Princeton Tigers
program down in the NCIC, Ryan took the reins of the Spartans program for
the 2005 season and has led them to one playoff appearance. That came in
2007, the year which included a 37-7 drubbing on Kaneland. Including this
season, Ryan’s coaching record with Sycamore is 22-27.

If Kaneland WR Ryley Bailey has a productive game, it could be a long night
for the Spartans. So far through three contests, the senior has caught 21
passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. Bailey also recovered a Rochelle
fumble deep in KHS territory that set up an important Knight touchdown last
Friday.

Here is where to go:
