Citizens Corps receives government funding

The Elburn Police Department will receive an $8,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to finance the village’s new Citizens Emergency Response Team.
Elburn Police Chief Jim Linane told the Village Board on Monday that the money will pay for training and equipment for the team, also called the Citizens Corps.
With the funding, Elburn police will be able to begin the program they first proposed in August 2008.
The Citizens Corps will be made up of volunteers over age 20 who want to be involved in protecting the village and aiding in emergencies.
The Citizens Corps will be able to provide a variety of assistance, from storm watching to traffic control at local events to primary search and rescue, Sgt. Ron Brandenburg said.
