Lady Knights advance to XC sectional
by Mike Slodki
Nothing like Belvidere in late-October.
Kaneland’s girls cross country roster will look forward to finding that out first hand on Halloween.
Due to its third-place performance at Oakhurst Forest Preserve in Aurora on Saturday, Kaneland sets out for Statehood based on its sectional perforance.
Kaneland’s 82 points were behind Crystal Lake Central (72) and Burlington Central (76).
“The girls’ best team effort of the season,†KHS coach Doug Ecker said.
Burlington Central’s Maggie Gannon won the three-mile course with a time of 18 minutes, 20 seconds, followed by Holly Plichta of Hampshire at 18:26.
For Kaneland, the top runner was junior Andie Strang, good for her usual output at 19:16, for 11th place. Two places behind was freshman Ashley Castellanos at 19:17.
In 15th place was senior anchor Lisa Roberson, who completed her task in 19:21, a personal best.
In 17th place was freshman Abby Dodis, who ran the course is 19:30.
The team-wide split of 42 seconds was the best for any Kaneland team, made more remarkable by Castellanos and Dodis recovering from the flu.
