Volleyball gears for postseason with 14-17 record

DeKalb stopped Kaneland’s volleyball roster on Oct. 21 by a final of 29-27, 25-22 at the home of the Lady Barbs.

KHS then went on to host the annual SpikeFest gathering, finishing fifth out of eight squads.

With the 1-2 showing at SpikeFest, Kaneland’s regular season mark concludes at 14-17, with a final-ever Western Sun Conference mark of 6-8.

Against the Barbs, Jessica Lubic had 18 assists, eight digs and four aces.

Abby VanDerHeyden added three kills and ten digs. Katy Dudzinski added five kills.

In the sophomore matchup, the Lady Knights handled DeKalb by a final of 11-25, 25-8, 25-15.

The freshman “A” team lost to DHS 25-18, 25-20, and the “B” side took a 25-19, 25-20 win.

At SpikeFest, the Lady Knights lost to Aurora Central Catholic by a final of 25-19, 25-18, lost to Hampshire 25-11, 20-25, 15-10, and beat Peotone 25-12, 25-12.

Geneva beat Hampshire in the championship match.

Now brings the regional grouping for Kaneland. Burlington Central is the site for Kaneland’s first challenge on Thursday, Oct. 29, as the fourth seed, with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against (5) DeKalb.

At 6:30 p.m., (2) Burlington Central faces (3) Sycamore, while top-seeded Hampshire faces the KHS-DeKalb winner at 7:30 p.m. The regional title match takes place on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.
