Sister Donna Petit

            Sister Donna (Loretta) Petit, O.S.F., of Milwaukee, Wis., passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, after a lingering battle with cancer.

            She was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Virgil, the daughter of Michael J. and Elizabeth (Feltes) Petit.

            In 1941, at the age of 18, Donna entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Francis of Milwaukee. She was noted for her work with children at St. Amelia’s orphanage and also at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, as well as St. Luke’s Medical Center in Oshkosh, Wis. She was also involved in a prison ministry in Main, Wis.

            She is survived by two brothers, Frank of St. Charles and Peter of Virgil; two sisters, Lorraine (Petit) Miller of Virgil and Sister Marie Petit, O.S.F. of Milwaukee. In addition, she leaves many nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews and an unnumbered host of friends in ministry.

            She is preceded in death by three sisters, Louise (Oscar) Zang, Julia (Wilby) Dinges and Regina Petit; three brothers, Fr. Clement Petit, Herman Petit and Carl Petit; three sisters-in-law, Jean (Sauber) Petit, Helen (Sauber) Petit and Earlene (Ambre) Petit; two nephews, Xavier Zang and David Petit; and one niece, Donna Petit.

            Following traditional visitation and Mass in Milwaukee, a local memorial Mass was held Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. at S.S. Peter & Paul Church, Virgil.
