Men want to look good too

Mens Groom Room offers a place for
men to prepare for big occasions

Having opened more than two years ago, Men's Groom Room in St. Charles has found its niche—as a place where male members of wedding parties can receive the same treatments as their female counterparts.
“Many wedding parties come through. Sometimes, its' just the groom and best man, and other times it's the fathers of the groom and bride, and the rest of the (male) wedding party,” owner Jodie Rees said.
For wedding parties preparing for the ceremony, Men's Groom Room will bring in food and beverages.
“We want it to be a fun occasion,” Rees said.
The most popular services for men on wedding days, especially for the grom include a shave, haircut, manicure and massage.

“We want to make sure they will look fantastic for those photos, which will last forever,” Rees said.
The salon features hair styling stations on the first floor, along with pedicure, shave and hair coloring cubicles behind a ceiling-high partition.
Regular customer Ray Drake of St. Charles likes the atomosphere, including the cushy lounge area with its large-screen T.V. But the main reason he goes to Men's Groom Room is once a month is for a good hair cut, he said.
Waxing of eyebrows and backs is another service customers appreciate, as an addition to what they can obtain from a traditional barber.
Among other customers of Men's Groom Room, manicures and pedicures are particularly popular. The procedures, which older men especially like, include cleaning off dead skin, buffing nails and massaging hands and feet. Many clients also take advantage of back-hair waxing.
A variety of facials, which include neck and shoulder massages are offered on the lower floor of the business.
Rees remodeled the interior to feature many of the space's original elements—from crown molding around ceiling to dark paneling on the walls— elements she believes complement the spa as a non-feminine place.
