Christensen chucks old Kane Co. record

Kaneland takes 7th in 90th edition of meet

What did you do with your Friday?
A common answer might have been to watch the skies looking at what the rain clouds might bring.
Kaneland senior Phil Christensen watched his disc fly through the air and break a Kane County Meet record in Geneva.
Christensen’s throw also set a school record at 184 feet, 11 inches.
Logan Markuson also set a sophomore school record in the 300m intermediate hurdles at 40.49, good for second place.
In the team standings, West Aurora earned 109 points, followed by Geneva (98) and Batavia (62). Kaneland’s total of 42 points was behind St. Charles North (53.5) but ahead of East Aurora (32).
Markuson’s time in the hurdles was .38 seconds off from Burlington Central’s Dan Hagberg.
The Knights’ 4x400m relay foursome of Hayden Johnson, Colin Zagel, Tommy Whittaker and Markuson won third at 3:28.74.
Christensen’s record-crushing throw in the discus was more than 20 feet farther than second-place Kevin Costin of West Aurora.
“During practice, I think I was going a little too fast,” Christensen said. “I just tried to slow things down. Watching it go, it definitely was a different feeling.”
Christensen also finished fourth in the shot put (50-3 1/2).
Markuson also left the meet as Kane County champ in the pole vault with an effort of 12-6.
Kaneland’s 800m freshman sprint medley took fourth with a time of 1:47.01.
The boys track roster gears up for the Western Sun Conference meet on Friday, May 9 in Yorkville.
